i know from friends who are pimi that circuit overseers are taken off when they hit age 70. since most of them are long serving men it might explain why they are pushing mid-20 year old lads into the circuit work.. are there any similar age restrictions on congregation elders?
because we've known some doddery old men in the past who shouldn't have been kept on as presiding overseers but refused to relinquish their role.
does anyone know?.
No age limit for elders. We have several that are around the 90 mark. On the download version of the recent RC there was a 100 year old brother that gave a talk. He must be an elder to do that.

so as they say one picture is as strong as a thousand words and here you have it guys in the latest study edition of the watchtower for october 2024 that has just been posted on their website a middle aged jw window cleaner dreaming of the new system where things will get better.
why does the watchtower need to talk now about jws on minial self employed jobs?
I remember a few years ago a visiting speaker mentioning in his Public Talk that he was still working as a window cleaner even though he was in his mid seventies. He said he wished Armageddon would come soon as that would be the only way he could retire due to the high cost of living here in SE England.
Judging by what window cleaners here charge they probably earn plenty but it's also a case of saving and financial planning for old age. That's the old age that so many never expected to reach!

i'm interested to know the age demographics here.
it must be significantly different to other exjw forums.
it would be a damning report for watchtower if most of us appear to have left for decades.. you don't have to mention your exact age, you could always say "in my 50s".. i am in my 70s.
I too well remember 1975 and all the speculation in the years leading up to it. On 1st January 1976 I should have walked away but with wife, parents, in laws, family it would have been very difficult.
Almost 50 years on it's well too late but I can dream of what might have been.

I have "special mightiness". Well, almost.

any fond memories or funny stories relating to the old book study arrangement?.
i remember a time when a new sister turned up with very smart jacket and shirt.
yet she was wearing trousers and when questioned by everyone she said "blimey, i think geoff (her husband) is wearing my skirt!".
I must have led a very sheltered life at the Congregation Book Study's that I attended. The biggest event that ever happened was if the sister's dog managed to sneak into the lounge before the final prayer. Afterwards we would have a coffee and a biscuit, chat about nothing scriptural and go home 15 minutes later.

since covid in france, especially in the countryside with lack of brothers, it was quite common that some sisters were using the computer at the back of the kingdom hall to manage zoom session.. i heard a rumor that new instructions, maybe a july letter, stated that this was reserved for male only, even unbaptised publishers, but no sister if there is at least a male available.
that would be a steps back and disappointment for these sisters.
last week i heard at my mom’s house how they were happy that this service was available for them, a proof that the org was moving forward.
We have a sister work on the AV desk. You can always tell if she's on duty. Every works smoothly!

big news.
just in from a friend who is fading.. disfellowshipping will no longer be a term used by jws.
study article 35, paragraph 4 footnote says this:.
I suspect that the GB is divided over whether they want to significantly downgrade the practice of shunning or whether they just want to tinker with the wording and keep shunning practice in place as far as possible.
AMIII said in the Norway video that we will never change our policy on disfellowshipping. A year and a half later changes are being made and AMII has "gone". Probably what all the fuss was about.

from reddit.. a summary of changes: .
we are all sinners, so we have to be reasonable how we punish sinners.
if elders and congregation do not quickly help someone come to be reinstated they would be imitating satan the devil, not jehovah (yes that actually is what is said in the tagalog version in translation!
Not because of love or compassion, but because of legal and money.
Absolutely. Money is what this organisation is about.

it was translated so make sure everything looks ok.. 2024-08-august-edition of watchtower magazine.. .

Thank you Atlantis, you always come up with the goodies!
That front cover is a far cry from the one that someone put on here a week or so ago. No wonder they changed it! Printed copies of that magazine would be worth a fortune.
